Dreading how much your energy bills will cost this winter?
It’s an excellent time to look closer at heat pumps and wave goodbye to your gas boiler for good, especially since there’s now more financial support available.
Although the government’s ambitions for meeting net zero have been reduced, they still want to encourage more heat pump installations. According to recent research, around 8 million buildings will need to switch from gas boilers by 2035 to meet the UK’s 2050 net zero target.
The BUS (boiler upgrade scheme) grant has been increased to improve the number of people installing heat pumps. It means that an extra £2,500 is now available for low-carbon air source heat pumps, helping to ensure the cost is lower than that of a gas boiler.
Air source heat pumps are the most popular type of this technology because they don’t require a large outdoor space, unlike ground source heat pumps. However, financial support for installing ground source heat pumps is also being increased, with the grant leaping from £6,000 to £7,500.
